La Asociación de Empresas del Gran Consumo (Aecoc) ha defendido que el sector debe «redefinir» sus estrategias para atender a una población decreciente y cada vez más envejecida, como es el caso de España.

«Hay que dejar de mirar tanto a los ‘millennials’ para mirar más a los ‘viejenials’ porque son más, van a ser más y tienen mayor poder adquisitivo», ha argumentado hoy el vicepresidente de la patronal, Ignacio González, durante la inauguración de un congreso organizado por la entidad sobre estrategia comercial y marketing.

González, quien es consejero delegado de Nueva Pescanova, ha incidido en los cambios que entraña para el sector del gran consumo que España sea el segundo país más envejecido del mundo después de Japón, dado que las necesidades de un cliente de mayor edad son diferentes a las de los más jóvenes.

En un comunicado, Aecoc ha explicado que en su intervención González ha recordado que pese a la incertidumbre y otros problemas, la confianza del consumidor crece actualmente en España y la tasa de paro es la más baja desde hace una década.

En su opinión, el cliente muestra ahora un comportamiento «bipolar», con una gran preocupación de la salud que se hace compatible con momentos de indulgencia, a lo que suma una creciente preocupación sobre las cuestiones vinculadas con la sostenibilidad medioambiental.

En el marco de este congreso, que se celebra entre hoy y mañana, el vicepresidente de Aecoc ha insistido en que escuchar las demandas del consumidor, ofrecer productos saludables, contribuir al bienestar del planeta y apostar por la digitalización son las preguntas clave que deben responder las empresas.

Según datos recogidos por la consultora Nielsen y divulgados, entre enero y abril, el sector del gran consumo aumentó en valor un 2,7 % con respecto al mismo período del pasado año.
