Danilo Medina y su balance de gobierno
Un panorama económico inmejorable, con desempeños sobresalientes en comparación con cualquier país de Latinoamérica y acompañado de notables logros en materia social, educativa y de salud presentó el presidente de la República, Danilo Medina, en su anual Rendición de Cuentas al Congreso.
El mandatario empezó por referirse al fiasco de las elecciones municipales suspendidas y se manifestó de acuerdo en que “se busque a la verdad, toda la verdad”.
República Dominicana ocupa “uno de los primeros lugares” en Latinoamérica en crecimiento del PIB, en ingresos disponibles, en inversión extranjera y en reducción del desempleo y la pobreza, subrayó Medina. Es “el milagro dominicano”, enfatizó.
Pero además, según el Presidente, no solo fue el país que más creció, sin que “crecimos 50 veces más que el promedio de la región”. En ello influyó el avance en casi todos los sectores de la economía y “el excelente desempeño del sector externo”, reflejado en un déficit de la balanza de pagos de “apenas 1.5 % del PIB”.
La inflación es otro logro que resaltó, pues con el 2.65 % de promedio en su gestión presidencial, es “la más baja en los últimos siete años”.
El crédito al sector privado registra otro indicador admirable, porque según Medina, “experimentó en 2019 la mayor expansión anual de la historia dominicana”.
El comportamiento del máximo indicador de la economía, el producto interno bruto, es un punto del que se mostró especialmente orgulloso: “pasamos de US$60,739 millones a US$88,952 millones, es decir, más de 28 mil millones adicionales, lo que equivale a un crecimiento de 46.4 % en siete años”. Al finalizar su gobierno, enfatizó, el crecimiento de la economía equivaldrá a “sumar media República Dominicana a la República Dominicana que encontramos en el 2012”.
En el amplio listado de éxitos de su administración, Medina destacó especialmente los siguientes:
– Creación de 869.986 empleos.
– Tasa de desocupación de 5.9 %, “la más baja de nuestra historia reciente”.
– Crecimiento de los salarios reales en lo estratos de ingresos más bajos.
– Reducción de la pobreza monetaria, que se refleja en reducción de la pobreza a la mitad en siete años.
– «El país es uno de los de menor desigualdad de toda América Latina”.
– En los últimos siete años, la inversión total de las empresas registró un crecimiento de 82.6 %.
– El país es el primer exportador mundial de cigarros, segundo de interruptores eléctricos a EE. UU., tercero de instrumentos médicos en América Latina, segundo exportador latinoamericano de velas y velones aromáticos, segundo de trajes de fibras sintéticas a EE. UU., tercero de calzado a Latinoamérica y noveno hacia EE. UU.
– Préstamos entre 2012 y 2019, a través de Banca Solidaria por RD$33 mil millones a 683 mil micro y pequeños empresarios.
En medio de la relación de logros de la economía bajo su gestión, prometió que con el ingreso de la energía que generará Punta Catalina, “estamos a punto de decirle adiós para siempre a los fastidiosos apagones”.
En materia de educación, Medina aseguró que su gobierno finalizará con 33,000 escuelas construidas y suministro de alimentación escolar a 1.6 millones de estudiantes.
En materia carcelaria, un logro especial destacó, cual es el hecho de ser el único país de Latinoamérica con hacinamiento cero en sus centros penitenciarios.
