Entrevista: Al Horford jugador de All Star Center Philadelphia 76ers

Al Horford fue el segundo atleta nacido en República Dominicana en firmar múltiples contratos por más de 100 millones de dólares, después de que Albert Pujols lo consiguiera con ‘Angels’ y ‘Cardinals’ en MLB. 

El cinco veces All Star de la NBA ha sido un ejemplo para los jóvenes del país. Horford conversó con Revista Mercado sobre su carrera y los retos y objetivos que representa.

¿Qué llevó tu decisión ser parte de los 76ers? 

Dos cosas me llevaron a Philadelphia. La primera es la oportunidad de competir por un campeonato, junto a un grupo de jugadores muy especiales y, la segunda, me dieron un contrato por cuatro años. 

Lo que más me emociona es la posibilidad de darle un campeonato a la ciudad de Philadelphia. 

Estás en un equipo con mucho talento. ¿Cuál es el mayor aporte que Al Horford le ofrece a Philadelphia?

Mi mayor aporte es ser un líder dentro y fuera de la cancha. Ayudar al equipo ser lo mejor posible. 

Por los ‘Sixers’ han pasado jugadores de la talla de Wilt Chamberlain, Moses Malone y Allen Iverson, ¿ves ese tipo de potencial en el roster actual? 

Definitivamente, tenemos un grupo muy talentoso. Joel Embiid y Ben Simmons tienen ese potencial de ser jugadores élites. Han ido mejorando año tras año y llevan una muy buena trayectoria. 

¿Cuáles características consideras las más distintivas de este equipo?

La defensa. Vamos a ser un equipo que se enfoca en esa parte de juego y también en jugar en conjunto ofensivamente. 

¿Cuál es el impacto de este cambio en tu carrera? 

Es un gran impacto. Una oportunidad que he estado esperando por mucho tiempo. Ahora tengo la oportunidad de competir con un equipo de esta magnitud. 

¿Qué tiene de diferente este Al Horford del que se unía a los Celtics? 

Más experiencia y mejor entendimiento del juego, de qué tengo que hacer para ayudar al equipo a ser el mejor posible. 

¿Qué te mantiene enfocado año tras año?

Seguir mejorando como jugador. Continuar creciendo con mi juego y, lo más importante, trabajar para lograr ganar un campeonato. 

¿Qué significaría un campeonato para Al Horford? 

Sería algo grandioso para mí. Desde que llegué a la NBA, después de experimentar lo que es ganar en el nivel universitario, mi enfoque siempre ha sido ayudar a mi equipo ganar un campeonato en la NBA.

¿Cuál es la importancia de involucrarse con el desarrollo integral de la juventud? 

Muy importante. Yo creo que la juventud es nuestro futuro y quiero hacer mi parte en ayudar y motivar a los jóvenes para que trabajen y se esfuercen en alcanzar sus sueños. 

¿Qué consejo le darías a un joven dominicano que aspira llegar a la NBA?

Que se enfoque en sus estudios primeramente, en poner mucho trabajo en el baloncesto y en cuidar su cuerpo. Toca dejar las distracciones a un lado y entregarse al baloncesto. 

¿Dónde te visualizas en diez años?

Disfrutando de mi familia. También ayudando y motivando a personas a ser personas de bien y trabajadoras.
