Las cifras alcanzadas por las cuentas de internet

Una persona cualquiera, con un ingreso promedio que se asemeje al de un profesional que trabaja en una oficina, puede dares el lujo de tener dos cuentas de internet, una que conecte su hogar por medio de WiFi y otra que le dé potencia al móvil inteligente que está en la palma de su mano.

Así las cosas, el Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones (INDOTEL) registra dos cuentas de internet, aunque ambas suscripciones sean para el uso de una sola persona.

Este es el indicador de las telecomunicaciones que muestra qué tanto ha penetrado el negocio de los distintos operadores de este servicio de conexión a la red de redes, cada vez más relevante en la vida de las personas para comunicarse, entretenerse, gestionar las finanzas personales, tomar referencias de ubicación, pedir un taxi y ordenar comida, entre otras (muchas) funcionalidades.

El indicador de cuentas de internet, las que suman las conexiones fijas y móviles, va en incremento, en la medida en la que se expande también el producto interno bruto (PIB).

Al cierre del 31 de marzo de 2019, 7.62 millones de suscripciones estaban en operación, es un 5.6 % más de las que funcionaban al 31 de marzo de 2018, cuando 7.21 millones de cuenta facilitaban la conexión de un número indeterminado de usuarios.

Ahora bien, lo sorprendente es comparar los más recientes números del 31 de marzo de 2019, con las cifras del 31 de marzo de 2010.

En esta última fecha INDOTEL reportó apenas 460,000 cuentas de internet, por eso, el salto fue de 1,556 % entre 2010 y 2019. Le tomó una década a la nación alcanzar un nivel aceptable de digitalización.
