En concreto, la empresa ha paralizado la producción de las prendas de la próxima temporada y mantendrá únicamente aquellos pedidos destinados al comercio electrónico, según Business of Fashion.
Otras empresas del negocio de la moda que también han cancelado pedidos a sus proveedores ante el avance de la pandemia han sido grupos como H&M, Primark o Arcadia, dueño de Topshop y Topman.

Esta no es la única medida que ha tomado la empresa ante el avance del coronavirus. Gap ha extendido el periodo de cierre de sus 2.802 establecimientos en Norteamérica y Europa y ha suspendido temporalmente al grueso de su plantilla, tanto de tienda como de oficinas centrales. El grupo, que no precisó a cuántos empleados afectará esta medida, cuenta con 135.000 trabajadores.
Además de los despidos temporales y la paralización de la producción, la empresa también ha preparado su estructura financiera para el golpe del Covid-19. La compañía anunció varias medidas para reforzar su balance, que incluye disponer de su línea de crédito, reducir el capex y los gastos operativos.
La compañía finalizó el último ejercicio con sus ventas y su beneficio a la baja. El grupo encogió su facturación un 1,1%, hasta 16.383 millones de dólares (14.587 millones de euros), mientras que su resultado se desplomó un 65%, hasta 351 millones de dólares (311 millones de euros).
