Warren Buffett sorprende a los analistas con la venta de todos los medios de comunicación de su cartera. Ha vendido Berkshire Hathaway a Lee Enterprises por US$ 140 millones de dólares, incluidos los diarios Omaha World-Herald de Nebraska y The Buffalo News de Nueva York.

Hace pocas fechas el multimillonario norteamericano declaraba que siempre fue un fan del buen periodismo, pero consideraba que en la actual sociedad, es un modelo de en decadencia, salvo un puñado de periódicos de influencia como The New York Times y The Wall Street Journal.

El acuerdo abarca 31 diarios en 10 estados, 49 publicaciones semanales y 32 productos impresos. Entre los diarios se cuentan el Tulsa World de Oklahoma y el Winston-Salem Journal de Carolina del Norte. Como parte del acuerdo, Lee arrendará durante 10 años las propiedades inmuebles de BH Media.

Para la parte compradora , “ésta es una transacción convincente y transformadora para Lee Enterprises”, dijo la presidenta de esta empresa, Mary Junck. “Refinancia nuestra deuda de largo plazo en condiciones atractivas y brinda nuevas oportunidades de ingresos, así como sinergias operativas en una cartera ampliada”.

Por su parte Buffett, presidente y CEO de Berkshire, muy diplomáticamente, declaraba que él y su socio, Charlie Munger, tenían “nulo interés en vender el grupo a cualquier otro por una sencilla razón: creemos que Lee es la mejor situada para afrontar los retos del sector”.
