FMI: economía dominicana repuntó en un 7% en 2018
El Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) informó que la economía dominicana repuntó a un crecimiento récord de 7% en el 2018, con un impulso positivo que se mantiene en la primera parte de 2019.
El dato está contenido en los resultados de la consulta del Artículo IV que hizo con el país. Explicó que el retorno a un crecimiento por encima del potencial en 2018 reflejó una fuerte respuesta de la inversión y del consumo privado a un estímulo monetario oportuno después de la desaceleración en el 2017, a condiciones externas favorables y a un continuo fortalecimiento del mercado laboral.
“El sólido desempeño económico en los últimos años, apoyado por las políticas públicas, ha resultado en una reducción sustancial de la pobreza, la desigualdad y la convergencia continua de los ingresos a los niveles de economías avanzadas”, explicó en un informe sobre la consulta.
Agregó que la aceleración en la actividad no ha ejercido presión sobre los balances internos ni externos: la inflación se mantuvo moderada y la posición externa continúa sólida. “Esto permitió un giro hacia una postura monetaria y fiscal menos expansiva en 2018, guiando la actividad económica hacia su crecimiento potencial”, dijo el FMI en el informe dado a conocer por el Banco Central.
Indica que la perspectiva es favorable, con riesgos moderados y balanceados para el crecimiento. “Se espera, además, que el crecimiento se modere a alrededor del 5½ por ciento en 2019 y 5 por ciento en el mediano plazo, ambos dentro del rango estimado de crecimiento potencial.
La moderación estaría impulsada por una desaceleración en la tasa de expansión del crédito, un entorno internacional menos favorable y precios del petróleo más elevados”, establece el informe.
Asimismo, dice: “Se estima que la inflación aumente gradualmente hasta el rango meta de 4.00 ± 1.00 por ciento con el repunte de los precios de los alimentos y del petróleo. Se proyecta que la posición externa se mantendrá, en general, consistente con los fundamentos y financiada más que adecuadamente por la IED.
Los principales riesgos a la baja para las perspectivas son una demanda externa más débil de lo esperado y mayores precios de energía. Por el lado positivo, el impulso de la demanda interna en el corto plazo podría ser más fuerte de lo previsto, reflejando el sólido crecimiento de los ingresos”.
