Al margen de toda una serie de servicios y comodidades centrados en las necesidades de los usuarios, Stadia ofrecerá también un ecosistema de herramientas dirigidas a los desarrolladores de videojuegos.

Una de ellas, Style Transfer ML, se basa en el uso de machine learning (de ahí el ‘ML’ del nombre) y facilitará la aplicación de cambios visuales sobre la marcha en los videojuegos, posibilitando adoptar la estética al completo de un cuadro o de otro juego diferente. Es decir, lo que conocemos como un algoritmo de transferencia de estilo, y que Adobe ya presentó hace dos años para su uso en fotografías.
Pero, si quieres imaginar cómo quedaría eso en un videojuego, nada mejor que unos ejemplos:

Así, será posible mimetizar la información de una imagen estática y aplicarla a los espacios bidimensionales o tridimensionales del juego, generando -por ejemplo- nuevas texturas. Erin Hoffman-John, responsable de diseño de Stadia, destacaba hace unos días en el GDC “la gran cantidad de estilos artísticos jugables que podían crear” gracias al uso del Style Transfer ML.
Lo significativo de esta herramienta es que una de las primeras aplicaciones significativas del machine learning a la creación de ocio digital, una combinación de la que se ha hablado con profusión en los últimos años pero que estábamos tardadno en ver materializada.
No está claro si esta función podrá ser usada a voluntad por el usuario, pero incluso si queda exclusivamente en manos de los desarrolladores, Google está convencida de su potencial para crear experencias de juego más inmersivas:
