JD Sports sigue dando forma a la ‘joint venture’: Sprinter absorbe la filial española de Sport Zone
JD Sports y Sonae avanzan con la joint venture y simplifican su estructura societaria. Sprinter, propiedad del grupo británico, ha absorbido la filial española de Sport Zone. La operación se produce en plena reconversión de la red de tiendas de la empresa lusa en España en establecimientos Sprinter.
“Estamos realizando los últimos trámites para poder fusionar Sport Zone España dentro de la estructura de Sprinter”, ha explicado Ángel Segarra, director general de la compañía ilicitana, a Modaes.es. La simplificación societaria contempla la fusión por absorción de Sport Zone España Comercio de Artículos de Deporte por parte de Sprinter Megacentros del Deporte, según apareció publicado el pasado viernes en el Registro Mercantil.
La joint venture entre JD Sports y Sport Zone se anunció en marzo de 2017. El nuevo operador del deporte aglutina las cadenas Size?, JD Sports, Sprinter y Sport Zone en la Península Ibérica. Entre todas ellas sumaron una cifra de negocio agregada de más de 500 millones de euros en 2017 y superan las 300 tiendas en la región.
Las tiendas de Sport Zone en España se están reconvirtiendo en establecimientos Sprinter, salvo aquellas ubicadas en las Islas Canarias
El cambio societario tiene lugar en plena remodelación de la red de veintitrés tiendas de Sport Zone en la Península Ibérica, que se están reconvirtiendo en establecimientos Sprinter. La cadena lusa sólo mantendrá su denominación en las Islas Canarias, dado que la empresa goza de un mayor reconocimiento de marca en la región.
El proceso de integración tras la joint venture también conllevó el cierre de varios establecimientos. Entre ellos figuran los puntos de venta de Sport Zone en los centros comerciales Puerto Venecia en Zaragoza e Islazul en Madrid, así como el del complejo Arena en Valencia.
Iberian Sports Retail Group, nombre del nuevo operador que aglutina JD Sports, Sprinter y Sport Zone en la Península, está pilotado por Miguel Motas Freitas, responsable del negocio de retail de Sonae, que fue nombrado consejero delegado el pasado agosto.
Sprinter invirtió este año 35 millones de euros en sus nuevas oficinas y almacén logístico en Alicante, al que se trasladó en 2017
El pasado febrero, Sprinter reorganizó su consejo de administración para dar entrada a dos nuevos miembros: Motas Freitas y Paulo Simões, director general de Sport Zone y consejero de Sonae Sport&Fashion, respectivamente. Los ejecutivos relevaron en el órgano a Fermín y Vicente Bernad, cofundadores de Sprinter, que vendieron su participación en la empresa a finales de 2016.
Este año, la cadena ilicitana invirtió en torno a 35 millones de euros en su nueva sede y almacén logístico en Alicante. Las previsiones de crecimiento de Sprinter contemplan un alza del 15% en sus ventas, hasta romper la barrera de los 250 millones de euros. El grupo finalizará el ejercicio con cerca de 140 tiendas en el país, tras realizar entre ocho y nueve aperturas.
Sprinter fue fundada por las familias Segarra y Bernad y abrió su primer establecimiento en 1995 en Valencia. La compañía distribuye artículos de moda y equipamiento deportivo de marcas como Nike, Adidas, Puma, Fila, Asics y New Balance, entre otras. Durante los años posteriores, el grupo expandió su presencia más allá de la Comunidad Valenciana, hasta operar con tiendas en todas las regiones del país.
