La innovación llega al algodón. El Better Cotton Iniciative (BCI), junto a Sustainable Trade Iniciative (IDH) y Dalberg Advisors, ha puesto en marcha el proyecto Better Cotton Innovation Challenge con el objetivo de buscar métodos más sostenibles en la producción de la materia prima.
El proyecto se centra en impulsar la búsqueda de innovaciones en las prácticas agrícolas y de capacitación de los productores y reducir el tiempo y coste de datos para permitir ganar agilidad los procesos de certificación.
Machine learning, análisis basados en satélites o reconocimiento de imagen son algunas de las innovaciones que se pueden dar en el sector. La iniciativa, además, otorgará un premio de 135.000 dólares a las mejores innovaciones, que tendrán la oportunidad de realizar pruebas piloto en campos de cultivo de algodón BCI.
“Alentamos a cualquiera que tenga una idea a que presente y envíe su solicitud”, ha señalado Cristina Martin Cuadrado, responsable del programa. “Siempre estamos buscando nuevas ideas y soluciones que nos permitan seguir mejorando”, ha explicado la directiva.
