Del máximo de Italia a la reducción de Reino Unido: la moda europea reduce un 24% sus emisiones de CO2 en diez años
La moda en Europa camina hacia la sostenibilidad. Más de 25.000 asistentes, veinte jefes de Estado, Greta Thunberg, otros activistas y científicos. Ayer se dio el pistoletazo de salida en Madrid a la Cumbre del Clima, que se celebrará hasta el 13 de diciembre. ¿El objetivo? La estabilización de las concentraciones de gases de efecto invernadero a la atmósfera a un nivel que impida interferencias peligrosas en el sistema climático.
Aunque la moda es uno de los sectores más contaminantes del mundo, el sector ha ido dando pasos cada vez más sostenibles en los últimos diez años. La industria de la moda en Europa ha recortado un 24% sus emisiones de dióxido de carbono (CO2) a la atmósfera entre 2008 y 2017.
En 2017, el textil y el cuero emitieron un total de 8.699 millones de toneladas de CO2 a la atmósfera, frente a las 11.464 millones de toneladas de 2008. Sin embargo, en términos interanuales, el sector aumentó sus emisiones frente a 2016 un 1,3%.
Italia cuenta con la industria de la moda más contaminante en Europa
Italia se sitúa como la industria europea de la moda más contaminante. El 2017, el sector emitió 2.631 millones de toneladas de dióxido de carbono a la atmósfera, lo que supone el 30,2% del total de la industria de la moda en el continente. Además, el país ha sido uno de los que menos ha reducido sus emisiones entre 2008 y 2017, sólo un 15,8% menos.
El segundo mercado más contaminante de la industria de la moda en Europa es Reino Unido, que en 2017 realizó emisiones por valor de 1.503 millones de toneladas. Sin embargo, el país ha logrado ver los resultados de sus objetivos sostenibles, reduciendo un 24,3% sus emisiones de CO2 a la atmósfera.
España emitió 792,7 millones de toneladas de CO2 a la atmósfera en 2017
Francia ocupa la tercera posición con la industria de la moda más contaminante en la región, tras emitir 834,1 millones de toneladas de dióxido de carbono a la atmósfera en 2017. Aunque el textil y el cuero francés han incrementado sus emisiones un 1,9% entre 2016 y 2017, el sector ha rebajado su contaminación, emitiendo un 36% menos que en 2008.
España y Portugal, por su parte, poseen las otras dos industrias de la moda más contaminantes en Europa. En España, el sector emitió 792,7 millones de toneladas de CO2 a la atmósfera en 2017, mientras que la moda portuguesa emitió 760,8 millones de toneladas. Con todo, la industria de la moda en ambos países ha reducido un 20,7% y un 25,8% la contaminación entre 2008 y 2017, respectivamente.
Fuera de Europa, los principales mercados han dado un paso atrás en los objetivos de sostenibilidad. Donald Trump ya ha iniciado el proceso para sacar a Estados Unidos del Acuerdo de París, mientras que China no tiene previsto recortar sus emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero.
