El empleo en la industria de la moda en España cae en el tercer trimestre a su mayor ritmo desde 2014

El empleo en la industria española se descuelga de la recuperación. Tras romper la pasada primavera cuatro años de crecimiento ininterrumpido, el número de ocupados en el textil, la confección y el calzado en el país marcó un desplome del 13,8% en el tercer trimestre, hasta 148.100 personas. Fue la mayor caída registrada por el empleo en el sector desde el cuatro trimestre de 2013, según datos de la Encuesta de Población Activa (EPA), recogidos por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE).

El dato de ocupados en la moda española es ostensiblemente superior al de la afiliación media en el sector divulgado por la Seguridad Social. En concreto, según datos del Ministerio de Empleo y Seguridad Social, el sector finalizó el pasado septiembre con 137.193 trabajadores, un 0,8% más que un año atrás.

En términos absolutos, el tercer trimestre se saldó con 23.700 ocupados menos en el sector de la moda que un año atrás. La caída del empleo en la industria española arrancó la pasada primavera y vino precedida por dos trimestres con una paulatina desaceleración del crecimiento.

Entre octubre y diciembre de 2017, el empleo aminoró su ascenso hasta un solo dígito, elevándose un 7% respecto al mismo periodo del año anterior. En los cuatro trimestres anteriores, el número de ocupados se incrementó a doble dígito.

En el primer trimestre de 2018, la desaceleración del aumento del empleo en el textil, la confección y el calzado se hizo aún más palpable. El sector cerró el periodo con 174.300 trabajadores, sólo un 2,9% más, su ascenso más bajo desde 2015.

Por subsectores, el textil fue el único cuya plantilla se mantuvo al alza entre julio y septiembre, aunque el crecimiento perdió fuelle. El número de ocupados en esta actividad se incrementó un 1,9%, hasta 47.400 personas, frente al repunte del 14,9% marcado en el segundo trimestre.

La industria de la confección y la del calzado redujeron su número de ocupados un 18,2% y 20,9% en el tercer trimestre, respectivamente

La confección española, por su parte, finalizó el tercer trimestre con 48.100 trabajadores, un 18,2% menos que un año atrás. La caída fue mayor a la registrada entre abril y junio, que fue del 11% y puso fin a una racha alcista iniciada en el cuarto trimestre de 2015.

El desplome del empleo fue todavía más pronunciado en la industria del cuero y el calzado, que sumaba 52.600 ocupados en el tercer trimestre, un 20,9% menos. La caída fue la más intensa registrada desde el segundo trimestre de 2013.

La evolución del empleo en la industria de la moda contrastó con el conjunto de sectores de la economía española. La ocupación en el conjunto de sectores de actividad en España aumentó en 183.900 personas durante el tercer trimestre, hasta alcanzar 19,5 millones de ocupados, una cifra que no se lograba desde finales de 2008.
