Fund Grube ficha al ex responsable de Douglas en España como director general

Fund Grube renueva su cúpula con un nuevo líder. La compañía canaria de perfumería ha fichado a Juan Esteban, ex responsable de Douglas para el mercado español, como nuevo director general. El ejecutivo cuenta con una trayectoria de más de una década en el sector.

Esteban, licenciado en Económicas y Derecho por la Universidad de Salamanca, se incorporó a Douglas como director de ventas en 2008. En marzo de 2012, el ejecutivo pasó a ocuparse del departamento de compras y márketing, responsabilidad que mantuvo hasta 2014, cuando asumió la dirección general de la filial española.

Tras cuatro años al frente, Esteban abandonó Douglas en enero de 2018, pocos meses después de que la empresa cerrase la adquisición de Bodybell y de la red de tiendas de Perfumerías If, alcanzando una facturación de 300 millones de euros en el mercado español.

La pasada primavera, Esteban se sumó al equipo de Coolligan, la start up especializada en moda inspirada en el fútbol, para dar apoyo a los responsables de la marca, Jon Segovia y Juan Sánchez. El ex directivo de Douglas dejó de prestar sus servicios a la empresa hace unas semanas.

Dhiraj Chhabria, presidente de Fund Grube, ha destacado la “experiencia en el sector” de Esteban y su “capacidad de gestión de equipos”. La empresa opera en la actualidad con 39 puntos de venta, la mayoría ubicadas en el archipiélago canario, y tiene su sede en el polígono industrial El Tablero de la localidad de San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Las Palmas).

En 2017, Fund Grube aceleró su expansión en su mercado doméstico con aperturas en Gran Canaria y Tenerife. Asimismo, la compañía extendió su huella fuera de Canarias mediante la apertura de una tienda en el puerto de Alcudia, en Palma. La compañía finalizó el ejercicio 2017 con unas ventas de 113 millones de euros, frente a los 104 millones del año anterior.

Además de su cadena homónima, Fund Grube opera con Walk!, cadena de zapaterías, y Let’s outlet!, un establecimiento con productos a precio reducido. El grupo fue fundado en 1983 por los hermanos Girdhari y Manu Chhabria, de origen indio. Ambos pusieron en marcha ese año la primera tienda Fund Grube en la localidad de San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

En 1990, la empresa sube la persiana de su segundo establecimiento, ubicado en el centro comercial Yumbo de Gran Canaria y, ocho años después, abre la tercera en el complejo Tropical de la Playa del Inglés, en Gran Canaria. En las dos décadas posteriores, Fund Grube acelera el ritmo de aperturas en el archipiélago.
