Being of the planet’s leading department stores comes with perks, and one of them being a focal point of all brands from fashion’s upper echelon. Firmly anchored in this exclusive league is Selfridges, a storied landmark in London‘s retail landscape with a global appeal. It isn’t very surprising Gucci has opened a pop-up store on the premises to present a special range of trophy goods to the department store’s discerning clientele. Situated on the ground floor, it occupies a sizeable 150 sqm. (1,615 sq.ft.) corner unit, and comes with several large floor-to-ceiling windows that allow passers-by unobstructed peeks. The Gucci version of The Corner Shop, as it is aptly called by Selfridges‘ loyal fanbase, is pretty much Alessandro Michele‘s wet dream.
The setting very much reflects the creative director’s hailed kitsch-bordering sense of aesthetic and sees an unapologetic infusion of bright pink, captured by carpeting, displays, walls clad in shiny optical fibres, and even the Gucci logo. So, what’s on the shelves? As said, there’s a special selection of merchandise, including two worldwide exclusive women’s handbags, leather goods exclusive to Selfridges. Additionally, there are items of the Gucci Décor collection, such as scented candles, hand-embroidered cushions, accessories, but also sneakers and jewellery pieces
