Una de cal y una de arena para una de las start ups de moda favoritas de Wall Street ha cerrado el cuarto trimestre con mejores resultados de lo esperado, pero ha decepcionado al mercado en su previsión para el ejercicio 2020.

La compañía creció un 36% en el cuarto trimestre, hasta 432,1 millones de dólares. En el acumulado del año, los ingresos de la empresa se elevaron un 29%, hasta 1.600 millones de dólares. La empresa sumó medio millón de nuevos clientes activos, hasta 3,2 millones de

consumidores.

En cambio, el beneficio continuó reduciéndose, con un descenso del 17,9%, hasta 36,9 millones de dólares, frente a los 44,9 millones del año anterior. El descenso se debe principalmente al incremento de los costes, que se dispararon hasta 679,6 millones de dólares, y en particular a partidas como la de publicidad, que ascendió a 39 millones de dólares.

Stitch Fix prevé cerrar 2020 con una facturación de entre 1.900 millones y 1.930 millones de dólares

Para el ejercicio 2020, que finaliza en agosto del año que viene, Stitch Fix anticipa una facturación de entre 1.900 millones de dólares y 1.930 millones de dólares, frente a los 1.910 millones de dólares que anticipaban, de media, los analistas de Wall Street. El resultado bruto de explotación (ebitda) de la compañía se situará entre 85 millones y 105 millones de dólares.

Esta revisión se debe principalmente a que Stitch Fix anticipa un primer trimestre más débil de lo previsto inicialmente. Según explicó la empresa en una carta a sus accionistas, la revisión se debe a dos motivos: “en primer lugar, hemos tenido mucho éxito este año con los productos de verano, cuyo precio unitario es más bajo; en segundo lugar, hemos gastado menos en márketing en el último trimestre de 2019, por lo que tuvimos menos clientes en el arranque del primer trimestre de 2020”.
