Bangladesh firma los estatutos para el nuevo Accord
Bangladesh culmina la puesta en marcha del nuevo Accord. El Steering Committee of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh (Accord) y el Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers Export Association (Bgmea) firmaron ayer el acuerdo del Readymade Sustainability Council (RSC), que sustituye al hasta ahora Accord on Fire and Building Safety.
El objetivo del proyecto pasa por implantar medidas de seguridad en las fábricas del país. El RSC estará regido por un consejo de administración compuesto por el mismo número de representantes de la industria textil bengalí, las compañías del sector y los sindicatos. El acuerdo funcionará dentro del marco regulatorio de las leyes de Bangladesh y contará con todas las inspecciones y medidas que el Accord.
Además, la puesta en marcha del RSC requiere la implantación de requisitos como que se mantendrán las características de transparencias existentes en el Accord; que todas las operaciones, el personal, y las funciones del Accord sean transferidas al RSC; que el RSC designe a un nuevo director de seguridad, y que el mecanismo de quejas y propuestas continúe operando de manera independiente.

Esta es una de las últimas fases de la implantación del RSC, que cuenta además con el apoyo de los grupos europeos de gran distribución. La plataforma se ha creado tras la polémica sobre la viabilidad del Accord después de que a mediados de 2018 concluyera su periodo de actuación y se decidiera posponer su actividad por dos años más hasta traspasar sus competencias al Gobierno.
Sin embargo, el Ejecutivo bengalí llevó a los tribunales a la organización para forzar su cierre y asumir sus operaciones. Finalmente, en mayo de 2019, la justicia de luz verde al Accord por donde meses, permitiendo que prosigan las negociaciones entre el Gobierno, los sindicatos y las factorías para completar las actuaciones en marcha en materia de seguridad.
