¿Qué tienen en común desarrollistas de Punta Cana, un consorcio de islas Canarias, una familia de cuadro de Cancún, un fondo de inversión de Santo Domingo y seis veces campeón de la NBA? José Chapur Zahoul, cuentan sus colaboradores, analiza sus estrategias de inversión con un mapa del Caribe enfrente. Su familia, parte del ‘boom’ de Cancún, conoce bien el poder del sol y la playa para convertir en oro algunos metros cuadrados frente al mar.

Con el hotel Moon Palace, a desarrollarse en Macao, piensa llevar 250,000 turistas cada año al extremo este de la isla. Es que si América Latina espera cada año un millón 300 mil turistas chinos, los conocedores de la industria saben que no invertirán su dinero y sus horas de vuelo en un solo destino.

Conocer el Caribe continental (Cancún) y el Caribe insular (Punta Cana) parece una apuesta lógica para un viajero que cruzó el océano Pacífico. Tener enclaves en ambas latitudes caribeñas posiciona a cualquier marca dentro de la dinámica multidestino.

Desde Gran Canarias, en pleno trópico, también los capitales hacen maletas y se van a vacacionar a las playas dominicanas. Lopesan Hotel Group, una corporación turística de la isla española, hace sus apuestas por US$450 millones, para levantar de aquí a 2021 una estructura todo incluido donde 1,500 empleados harán rotaciones de 24 horas, bajo el nombre de “Lopesan Costa Bávaro”.

Aunque de un lado del Atlántico se levantan los recursos, hacia el otro tramo se encuentra la demanda. Mientras Punta Cana recibe tres millones de visitantes no residentes por año, Gran Canarias, según sus cifras oficiales, recibió 438,555 viajeros. Con el Lopesan, el grupo español trata de empezar un collar de hoteles con perlas que incluyen a Alemania y Austria.

La cultura también inspira a los capitales internacionales a tomar excursiones por el Caribe insular. Senator Hotel & Resort concluyó a finales de 2018 la remodelación del hotel Playa Bachata, de 600 habitaciones.

La empresa con sede en Andalucía, España, se decidió a conquistar el norte de República Dominicana. Puerto Plata tiene la oportunidad de un resurgir como polo turístico y Senator entiende que puede obtener tiempos de bonanza con ese auge.

Los mexicanos se sienten cómodos en República Dominicana. Con US$580.7 millones en inversiones, entre 2010 y septiembre de 2018, esta nación es el principal destino de canalización de recursos aztecas en el Caribe insular. Excellence Group, con enclaves en Cancún y Punta Cana, colocó 450 ‘suites’ más en el principal destino turístico de República Dominicana, con el “Finest Punta Cana”.
