Primark vuelve a apoyarse en las aperturas para compensar el ‘like-for-like’: alza de sólo el 6% en 2018
Primark sigue creciendo gracias a su expansión física. La cadena irlandesa, propiedad del grupo británico AB Foods, ha cerrado el ejercicio 2018 con un crecimiento del 6%, frente al 19% del ejercicio anterior. Las nuevas aperturas compensaron la caída de las ventas comparables, que se situó en el 2,1%. El beneficio, por su parte, se disparó un 15%, hasta 843 millones de libras (963 millones de euros).
La compañía facturó 7.477 millones de libras (8.539 millones de euros) en el último ejercicio (cerrado el 15 de septiembre), frente a los 7.053 millones de libras (8.055millones de euros) del ejercicio anterior. El margen de la empresa mejoró además su margen bruto, que se situó en el 11,3%, frente al 10,4% de 2017.

Esta mejora estuvo motivada por una política de compras más eficientes y el impacto de la debilidad del dólar en el aprovisionamiento, especialmente en el segundo semestre. De cara al año que viene, Primark prevé una nueva mejora de los márgenes en el primer semestre y un ratio estable para el año completo.
Con todo, el grupo subraya que “los tipos de cambio aplicables a las compras en la segunda mitad del ejercicio serán susceptibles a la volatilidad del tipo de cambio de la libra en un periodo de intensas negociaciones del Brexit”.

El mercado británico fue uno de los que mejor evolucionó en el último ejercicio. Primark creció un 5,3% en el país y elevó sus ventas comparables un 1,2% “en un mercado que encogió”, apunta la empresa en un comunicado.
En la zona euro, la compañía incrementó su facturación un 4,7%, si bien las ventas comparables cayeron al mismo ritmo. Primark subraya que el negocio creció en España, Portugal y Alemania. Ajustando la canibalización de las nuevas aperturas, la empresa estima que la caída de las ventas comparables fue del 3,6%, que atribuye en parte a la climatología, especialmente en el norte de Europa.

En Estados Unidos, el grupo se muestra “muy satisfecho” con la evolución, subrayando que las ventas comparables mejoraron, incluso en las tiendas en las que se ha reducido el espacio comercial. De cara a los próximos dos años, el grupo prevé nuevas aperturas en el centro comercial American Dream, en Nueva Jersey, y en Sawgrass Mills, en Florida.
A escala global, Primark sumó quince nuevas tiendas en el ejercicio 2018, hasta sumar 360 establecimientos en todo el mundo. En concreto, el grupo puso en marcha cinco nuevas tiendas en Alemania, cuatro en Reino Unido, dos en Francia y una en Portugal, Bélgica, Holanda, Estados Unidos y España (Valencia).
De cara al próximo ejercicio, el grupo prevé abrir quince tiendas más, dos de ellas en España, que se ubicarán en Sevilla y Almería. Además, el grupo desembarcará en 2019 en Eslovenia con una apertura en Liubliana y ha firmado el contrato para su primera tienda en Polonia, ubicada en Varsovia.
