PROXIMOS MOVIMIENTOS DE WALMART. MAYO 2018
El negocio internacional de Walmart representa aproximadamente una cuarta parte de sus ingresos anuales (tiene más de 6.000 tiendas fuera de los EE. UU), Pero fuera, las cosas no han ido tan bien últimamente debido a las fluctuaciones en el cambio de monedas, enfriamiento de la economía brasileña y una batalla brutal de precios en UK (cuando se quejan de que en España hay guerra de precios… cojan un avión, vayan a UK, entren en los supermercados y se darán cuenta que aquello sí que es una guerra de precios, muy influida por la subida vertiginosa de los supermercados alemanes). Las ventas internacionales ha caído casi 20 mil millones de dólares en algo más de dos años . La sombra de Alemania y Corea del Sur aún pasea por los pasillos de las oficinas centrales de Walmart, dos países donde tuvo que salir con la cabeza baja en 2006.

Van a suceder otros movimientos:
1. India: Es el mercado donde la lucha Amazon/Walmart puede ser épica, Aquí es un secreto a voces que está a punto de comprar la participación mayoritaria de Flipkart, la principal compañía de comercio electrónico de India (valorada en unos 20.000 millones de $). Pero esta compra no es algo que se está haciendo de forma urgente, de cara a compensar todas las inversiones que está haciendo Amazon en India (más de 5.500 millones de $), como argumentan algunos artículos. La realidad es que Walmart lleva más de un año tras esta operación. Como pasó con Jet.com, la gestión seguiría en manos de Flipkart.
2. Brasil: Walmart quiere vender una participación mayoritaria de su negocio brasileño. En lugar de competir con los jugadores locales, la compañía se está asociando con ellos y tratando de limitar su enfoque.
3- China: Walmart lo lógico, y algo que intuyo, va a empezar a desarrollar formatos de tienda cada vez más pequeños. Y el formato de Sam Club (recuerden que bajo formato de membresía) tiene mucho futuro desde mi punto de vista en este mercado. Y atención al nuevo concepto de formato Smart del que les hablé y que ha abierto hace un mes en Shenzhen, donde se puede observar la encarnación terrenal del acuerdo entre Walmart y jd. com (muy interesante).
Recuerden que las acciones de Walmart han caído más del 17 por ciento en los últimos tres meses. Necesita urgentemente mandar mensajes positivos al mercado.
