San Pedro de Macorís, mejor conocido como la ‘Sultana del Este’, está ubicado a 66 kilómetros de la ciudad de Santo Domingo. Su principal fuente de economía es el turismo, la producción de azúcar y las zonas francas.

La economía de San Pedro gira principalmente en torno a la agricultura, debido a las grandes extensiones destinadas a la caña de azúcar. Otros importantes rubros lo componen la industria de zonas francas, la ganadería y el turismo.

Esta es una provincia industrial diversificada; entre sus industrias están, dos cementeras, el parque energético más grande del país y, en consecuencia, la mayor producción de energía eléctrica a nivel nacional.

Cuenta con tres destilerías de alcohol, varios parques de zona franca, procesadora de derivados lácteos, dos centrales azucareras, además del parque industrial César Iglesias, Molinos del Higuamo, entre otras.

La mayor actividad turística de la provincia se concentra en Juan Dolio, en el municipio de Guayacanes, ubicado al oeste de la ciudad de San Pedro de Macorís.
